Cover Me follows the journey of Elijah Dipree, a former standout athlete whose life was shaped by an early obsession with football, a passion that began while watching games on a hospital TV as an infant. After a dominant high school career at St. Rhode, Elijah earns a full-ride scholarship to the University of Georgia. However, his dreams of "Utopia" are shattered during his college debut when a violent hit leaves him motionless on the turf, ending his playing days.
Years later, Elijah works as a trainer in an industrial warehouse gym, viewing his past as the "crystallized remains of a long forgotten era". Despite his attempts to distance himself from the sport, his younger brother Jalen remains his biggest fan, even memorizing Elijah’s old high school playbooks. Encouraged by his mother and Jalen to consider a coaching opening at Georgia Tech, Elijah remains hesitant to fully re-engage with the world that broke him.
The story culminates on his old high school field during a 4:30 AM training session with his protégé, Micah Williams. As Elijah battles the static of painful memories, he watches Micah execute a play with perfect form. In that moment of success, Elijah realizes that while he can never truly escape his past, nurturing the next generation allows him to find a new purpose within the game he loves.
